Episode 16: 6 Ways Impostor Syndrome Affects Your Income

In this episode, I’ll dive into the ways Impostor Syndrome can affect your income, and what we can do to stop it.

1. Spending a lot of money on certifications and diplomas we don’t need

Impostor syndrome makes us feel like we are not good enough and not qualified enough and the logical thing to do is getting more expertise. But it actually doesn’t work.

2. Undercharging because

  • We feel that other people know more and can charge more
  • We don’t have enough experience to charge more
  • We feel like a fraud or an impostor and that we are not an expert
  • We are worried that we don’t know enough to get our clients results

3. Not taking action / procrastination

There’s one way to make money in our business: Getting clients.

And to get clients, we need to put ourselves out there AND let people know we have an amazing program.

When impostor syndrome is living rent free in our head, it makes us doubt. It stops us from talking about our offer. It makes us read more books instead of gaining practical experience. It makes us spend more time on websites and the like instead of focusing on money making activities.

4. Visibility

When we feel like an impostor, it makes it more difficult to show up authentically and talk about what we want to talk about because we worry that we don’t know enough.

So we are not fully ourselves. We hold back, we are plain vanilla. And people can’t relate and connect to us as much as they need to.

Or we feel like no one would learn anything from us, which makes it even more difficult to put ourselves out there, do videos or lives which really move the needle forward.

5. We compare ourselves and don’t follow our gut

We emulate other people because surely, they know what they are doing. But by doing that, we become a fraud towards ourselves.

We step out of alignment instead of doing things that feel good to us, we look around and do what they expect us to do instead. But deep down, it doesn’t feel good, we are out of alignment, and it becomes so much harder to manifest what we want.

6. Undermining your achievements

When you’ve successfully made amount X a month, or had a successful launch, impostor syndrome can sabotage you in your tracks and make you either plateau or decrease in the future if the narrative in your mind is “I got lucky, it was because of my coach, who I am to, I don’t deserve this, etc”.
